Before the works...

The pine floorboards in this Brentford house was looking tired and in serious need of refinishing. During our free site survey, we did a thorough inspection of the wooden floors & discussed with the client all available choices, followed by itemised quote with our floor restoration & repairs prices for floorboards.

Our client has decided to go for floor sanding, gap filling and staining of pine floorboards and finishing the floors in matt Lacquer.

How we carried out this pine floorboards restoration...

The original thickness of the victorian floorboards used for properties is approx. 20 mm when laid. Pine timber shrinks with the time and also becomes thinner every time the floors are restored. The minimal thickness, after which floorboards cannot be restored any more is approx. 15 mm.

At this stage our team will inspect in detail the thickness of the floorboards and also advise if any further repairs or floorboards replacement may be recommended prior to the floor sanding works.

During the floorboards restoration, the original floors are going through a sanding process of levelling with coarser grids, finishing with finer grids, and finally buffing, prior to sealant application & between the coats, for excellent results.

Our works included approx. pine floorboards floor restoration and finishing in matt lacquer. The sealing went down with 1 coat of primer and 2 coats of Bona Mega lacquer.

We also carried out gap filling as part of the floor restoration process. We aim to apply the resin filler with saw dust in the end of the working day, so it settles properly overnight and in case it is needed we can repeat it on the following morning, if required. The filler is after that removed by next stages of the floor sanding process in medium grids.

Our team prepared few samples on the unfinished sanded timber surface for the client to approve prior to application of the finish. The client chose to go for staining their floorboards in beautiful jacobean oak colour to compliment their interior.

Overall, this floor sanding project in Brentford was completed as scheduled and to the satisfaction of the client.

Did you know this about pine flooring?

Pine is softwood timber widely used in construction for structural and finishing elements, due to its resilience to moisture. As a porous wood, rich in resins when its fresh, pine will shrink over time slightly, but it also changes colour and makes the original floorboards, which we love to repair & restore, such attractive asset to our environment.
