Before the works...

The pine floorboards in this Battersea Property was looking tired and in desperate need of renovation. During our free site survey, we did a thorough inspection of the floors & discussed with the client all possible choices, followed by itemised quote with our floor restoration & repairs pricing for floorboards.

Our client has decided to go for floor sanding and gap filling of pine floorboards and finishing the floors in matt Lacquer.

How we completed this pine floorboards renovation...

One of the challenges we experienced during this project was to complete the floor works in stages, due to bulky pieces of furniture, which could not be removed from the rooms.

After our floor sanding experts have checked all property & service details, they started with lifting the existing carpets and its preparation for disposal to our waste facility.

The original thickness of the victorian floorboards used for residential properties is approx. 20 mm when laid. Pine timber shrinks with the time and also becomes thinner every time the floors are restored. The minimal thickness, after which floorboards cannot be restored any more is approx. 15 mm.

At this stage our team will inspect in detail the thickness of the floorboards and also advise if any further repairs or floorboards replacement may be recommended prior to the floor restoration works.

During the floorboards sanding, the original floors are going through a sanding process of levelling with coarser grids, finishing with finer grids, and finally buffing, prior to the application of the sealant & between the coats, for perfect results.

Our works included approx. pine floorboards floor renovation and finishing in matt lacquer. The sealing went down with 1 coat of primer and 2 coats of Bona Mega lacquer.

We also carried out gap filling as part of the floor refinishing process. We aim to apply resin filler in the end of the working day, so it settles properly overnight and we can repeat it on the following morning, if required. The filler is after that removed by next step of the finishing process with medium grids.

Overall, this floor renovation project in Battersea was completed as originally planned and to the delight of the client.

Did you know this about pine flooring?

Pine is softwood timber widely used in construction for structural and finishing elements, due to its resilience to moisture. As a porous wood, rich in resins when its fresh, pine will shrink over time slightly, but it also changes colour and makes the original floorboards, which we love to repair & restore, such attractive asset to our environment.
